cchat changes lives
When James lost his hearing unexpectedly around the age of 4-5, we weren’t sure what life would look like for him. Hearing aids were ineffective, and cochlear implants were his only option. We knew that the implant technology would only go so far, and he would need extensive training to learn how to hear again. He was also significantly behind socially, emotionally and academically as a result of years of struggling to hear.
CCHAT was introduced to us, and it was the solution James needed. Not only was he able to work with a group of highly specialized teachers to train his brain to hear electrically, but he was given instruction and training to develop the skills needed to make friends, communicate his needs, and catch up academically.
August 2024
James began first grade at CCHAT with one cochlear implant and one hearing aid. He had been deaf for over a year, and only communicated using ASL. His many evaluations showed him to have the communication skills of a toddler. His amazing teacher and speech therapist worked tirelessly with him every day as he struggled to acclimate to his “new ear”.
December 2024
James received his second cochlear implant and celebrated having his first “robot ear” for 6 months. His hearing tests showed that he was able to access sound within a conversational range on his right ear. His progress at school was slow, and our hope was that the second implant would give him the boost he needed to made strides in hearing.
March 2025
With his second cochlear implant turned on in January and the entire CCHAT team working hard with him, James’s progress takes off. Functional technology + a team of experts helping his brain decode electronic messages = leaps and bounds of growth and development!

June 2025
James completes his first year at CCHAT, and we are in awe of his progress. He was able to catch up to a first-grade academic level, is speaking in full sentences, had achieved “Normal” sound access in both ears, and was
